Powerwall 3 can be installed as a standalone battery system and charged from the grid during lower-cost off-peak hours. That stored energy can then be used to offset more expensive peak-hour energy use or provide backup power during an outage. Without solar panels, however, the battery has no means to recharge during an extended power outage, and you miss the additional savings that come from generating solar electricity during the day.
